One of the things that really frustrates me in the AI argument is that "artists are just gatekeeping art. Not everyone is talented enough to do what artists do". To that I point out that anyone can do what artists do, but it takes time. I don't create what I do because of talent. It's a skill that I felt passionately enough about to take the time to learn. I don't have some amazing artistic gift I was lucky enough to be born with. I decided I really wanted to create, and started from the most simple tutorials I could (thank you, Ed Emberly, for creating how to draw books that consisted of simple shapes and zero ovals). It has taken me years and years of trying and trying again. And the payoff is so worth it. To be able to look at something and think I MADE THAT vs using AI and thinking "I made some keywords that AI put together for me with weirdly placed digits, wonky details, and melted appendages".
