This is beyond horrible IMO. I had to switch to deploying a whitelist a couple of years ago due to a huge boom of trash videos mislabeled as popular science on YT. It was 2021 and free/low-cost advanced generative AI wasn't even a thing back then. Many of those "early birds" who probably started the "fake-sci" trend now have millions of subs. Yikes. And, even worse, big corporations behind the video-sharing platforms are much more focused on securing ad revenue than sustaining public welfare. Debugging new pieces of information is a dreadful work that requires both higher education and brain power, nonetheless, creating them will become even cheaper in the foreseeable future. Not everyone has sufficient physical or biological resources to apply advanced critical thinking to all the information they receive. It's a guaranteed losing battle unless big techs do something on a massive scale to remove such content, or the governments force them to do so. Russia has been actively exploiting the weakness of completely uncontrolled free speech since the Soviet era to spread misinformation in the West, as an atrocious attempt to undermine the stability of Western democracy. It's a fight we absolutely cannot lose, with all the odds on our enemies' side. We won't stand a single chance if we let the ultimate evil led by totalitarian leaders win.
