FLOCK cameras aren’t intrusive by any means. It captures pictures of cars and the software can recognize makes and colors. No one in the public has access to the information FLOCK captures in the photo other than what they see (make, color and license plate number). Law enforcement has access to this same information, but the only difference is—is that it is searchable. For example, you see a red Honda bearing VA tag ABC1234. The average person sees a red Honda bearing that tag. They cannot do anything with it and cannot access the registrant’s information. Law enforcement is also restricted to this information. I’m a cop and all we see is the same thing; a red Honda bearing VA tag ABC1234. The only difference is that we can search for that tag and see which cameras captured it.
If the area you live in, work in or go to school in does not have a camera, then no, we will not know your every day movements. That is an outright lie by the guy in the beginning of the video. Moreover, a red light camera is more intrusive and a violation of your rights than FLOCK cameras. Red light / speed cameras captures your vehicle as it commits a traffic violation and presumes the owner is the driver, and thus issues a summons or citation in the mail. The camera quite literally bills you, the owner of the car, for a violation you may or may not have committed. You could be home or at work while your child, who borrowed your car, went speeding down the road. You get the citation and now have to prove your innocence.
So which is the infringement? A camera that captures a license plate, the same kinds that HOAs and businesses use? Or a traffic violation camera that automates a citation and presumes guilt, in which the owner of the car is now presumed guilty and now has to prove their innocence?
Ideally, no cameras would be nice. But criminals love a no-surveillance area. They can freely go into your car at 3AM, steal your guns and wallet from your car, maybe the car itself, and then go commit crimes leaving you without your property and all under the guise of your identity until YOU file a police report saying it wasn’t you smashing your car into a smoke shop at 4AM and stealing vape pens lol.
The FLOCK system exists, IMO, without any need for concern for intrusion on privacy. It captures information the public already sees when they’re driving on the roadway. It does not allow, nor does it have access or provide access to owner and registrant information. They do not have any access to state or local databases. FLOCK has all the benefit to help a victim of a crime, and none of the liability for abuse by ANYONE. It’s a great tool and most people who are up in arms over it aren’t informed enough to realize that it isn’t Big Brother. An ex who stalks you has more capability than an entire network of FLOCK cameras in any given area lol.
