This case is pretty much an exact copy of what a University teacher did to my friends. He took everyone on the course essays and asked chat GPT. Did you write this text? If GPT said yes failed them and threatened consequences, everything is resolved now thankfully. Apparently many people take GPT as cold hard truth and its good that more attention is given to the AI hallucination phenomenon.
