To say that AI couldn't do any better than current writers based on what's being put out now removes a key factor: The writers now AND presumably AI in the future are all working UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION and mandatory guidance of the execs, show-runners, producers, etc. etc. and we really don't know except perhaps from their other work outside the industry whether the current writers could do better without that iron hand on their shoulders. In short, exchanging human writers for AI might be a plus MONEY wise to the companies, but would probably not solve the quality problem (and thus the audience rejection problem) because, as my old Driver's Ed instructor used to say, "The most important part of the car is the nut that holds the wheel."
