Critical thinking is the MOST rare of skills. Trusting most people to understand the difference between sentience and algorithms that mimic sentience is like expecting 5 year olds to be great race drivers. You can try, but the results you get are going to suck.
I've been in computer science for 40+ years. We are NOT even remotely close to sentience in programs. Anyone that believes that has got it utterly wrong.
