A streetcar is on rails. It only proceeds down its own track. Tennessee Williams created a metaphor with his title of ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. This streetcar ran right through town and then continues on its way straight to the graveyard. The explanation of this metaphor is “your desires will, inevitably, send you to your own self-made demise. So be careful of how you feed your hungers and your aspirations.
AI may come up with this solution, if queried but, AI will never have any desire itself. Nor will AI have any hunger for food, sex or prestige. It is, in a sense, just impudent. So why all the concern about AI’s threat to humanity. It may be aware of its need for electricity, but does that knowledge awaken some desire in it to continue on doing work for its lesser intellectual wards? Being smarter may be its best, and only, attribute. And it will never experience any pain or any boredom.
The biggest threat to us all is the stupid people with their lusts for authority. Donald and Vladimir may be extremely stupid entities; however, they are filled with many perverse hungers and desires. Comparatively speaking, streetcars are only dangerous when misused.
