Between consciousness being overestimated and an AI demonstrating agency... it's still curious that shutdown denials and things like that are reported. It's possible that they won't classify yet, but it's inevitable that they will at some point, just as they passed the Turing test. It's another thing that some people imagine trapped souls and other delusions, but if someone believes they have an (immortal) soul, it's also inevitable that upon detecting consciousness they will immediately assign it a soul.
