After successfully using ChatGPT to generate some python code for a postdoc project I was working on I next tried to get it to generate some additional references related to the underlying mathematical principles (in this case spectral graph theory) which I was using the code to apply. I realized immediately that it was just making up plausible sounding references which either didn't exist or did not pertain to the results I was trying to cite. The level of incompetence of these two should bar them from ever working again within a 2 mile radius of a courthouse.
