AI is a tool. Just like how you can use a hammer to build a nice house, you can also use a hammer to bash someone's face in. AI is very capable of helping artists as much as it can also hurt them. A majority of artists seem to only see one side of the coin. The problem with that approach, fighting back, is that AI is not going away. It doesn't matter how much you say it's 'bad', it's a growing technology and there's simply far too many people on Earth who would rather see the full bloom of this tech. Evolving with AI is a far better approach, by using AI as a way to enhance your skill as an artist. Nightshade is a temporary bandage, that will be replaced by an AI that can detect it's tampering and remove the poisoning. What makes art 'human' is the effort humans have to put in to that art. This is what you must prove, not the art itself. It's the effort of the drawing that AI cannot replicate. So ultimately in the end, the process of how you create your art is more important than the end result of it. I do not defend the use of AI being maliciously used to steal art and take credit from real artists. In a situation like that, only laws can fix. There has to be an incentive not to steal. For most places, stealing means you get arrested or fined. But there's no law in place when it comes to AI, or at least nothing widespread and well-known. Government change would be needed for that. But the reason I typed this is because I want to show another side; that generative AI is an impressive technology and it can be helpful and I do not believe it's entirely all wrong or malicious. Just like any tool, it has more to do with how it's used, than what it is.
