This was one of the more heartening and constructive conversations I’ve heard on AI in a while. I’m super pessimistic about the direction AI is taking especially when that direction is constantly (deliberately even?) framed as inevitable. But as David points out, policies such as UBC, wage insurance show that it isn't. We can resist these authoritarian forces who are currently concentrating power and fight for an "AI future" shaped by new legislative and economic frameworks that distribute wealth equitably. It's crazy how little public discussion there is about what we can do to effectively push back, or about how AI could be used positively, in the public interest. The thing is, policy as it exists will never move as fast as the technology. So before we can regulate AI, we have to take it back somehow ,therwise we’re f***ed. That means building a movement to push out the tyrannical forces gaming the system (autocrats, tech oligarchs and their political enablers), before they push us out. I'm increasingly hopeful that people from inside the tech industry, like Alex Bores for ex. are going to jump ship and join that movement.
