Another point- there are only three reasons why face recognition (technically a time/labor saving technology) would be considered necessary by LEO organizations.
1. They know full well that things currently legal are about to be criminalized, and don't expect to be able to keep up with the work load. Think gun ownership, freedom of speech/expression etc. They're even trying to outlaw motorsports for instance.
2. They want plausible deniablity when horrible mistakes are made. Imagine a future where, as on the battlefield today, lethal decisions are being turned over to machines. If a machine is given authority to use lethal force defined by preset parameters, then the programmers (military industrial contractor) will be accountable instead of LEO agents.
3. They're just lazy.
