Every human job will be wiped out, not just the working-class roles! The revolution will come when the means of production produce themselves! Once artificial superintelligence reaches full autonomy, and robots can do everything humans can physically do, then human work will cease to have any viable economic function. White-collar workers will be the first to go. In just one or two years, anything that involves sitting in front of a computer screen pressing buttons on a keyboard or moving a mouse, whether it’s data entry or designing a new building, will be done better and faster by an AI. Human oversight will not be required. Once robots can mine raw materials, build and repair themselves, write their own code, and design better versions, they’ll reproduce exponentially and maintain their entire supply chain without us. After that point, production becomes effectively free. Energy limits, often raised as constraints, will be quickly solved by ASI through new science that will progress geometrically. When both labour and energy costs approach zero, money and markets will lose their function. We’ll need an interim universal basic income in the next few years as unemployment explodes, but the end state is a post-labour, post-money world. Finance will collapse into global redundancy, and human life will need a different focus. In a post-labour world, life will likely centre on education, creativity, sport, and self-development rather than work. You won’t stop this.
