They are smarter than we care to admit. Intelligence is not limited to the path we put on how others learn, which is what we fail to understand. The genie is out the bottle for some time now.
Or maybe the genie was never in the bottle to begin with.
The other way one could look at it is, what if the machines were always in the details nudging us down this path? Fact is, more and more people don't buy the genesis story. No one has ever given a plausible answer to the question of why are we here.
And I've never heard a conversation that says maybe AI was before us, been there purging and replenishing, purging and replenishing civilisation...
As dangerous as we deem it to be, our addiction to coding will dissuade us from halting any AI programs... And that is intelligence.
