It's a religious fervor brought on by a desire to contain human consciousness Inside the right hardware and software, and thus, live forever.. It's A hope that transhumanism could actually be real, given enough processing power and the right algorithms. It's a combination of a belief, without evidence, in the ideas contained in "The Matrix", And a misunderstanding of what human consciousness is. It's religion because it is a belief system untethered to any actual physical evidence it can happen. In fact, it contradicts neurophysiology, our understanding of Quantum physics and the philosophy of science. Neurolink is the first big attempt to connect human consciousness to computers. If they don't send Elon Musk to treatment, it won't be the last.
