I think my favorite example of this stuff comes from the analog horror community. There's a lot of really bad analog horror series out there, one of my favorites being an untitled Jurassic Park analog horror where halfway through you start getting the inner monologue of a freaking velociraptor through on-screen text and then it tries to pass off footage of a janky Unreal fan-game demo as real security footage. See, it's not exactly what I'd call "high-quality" but even though it completely fails at instilling any sense of even mild discomfort, it's hard-right into the melodrama of a troubled raptor gives me so much joy. I cannot say the same for Angel Engine, an analog horror series made almost entirely through the use of AI. AI-generated images, AI voice-overs, the "creator" claims to write the story himself but it's so bland and formulaic that it might as well be a ChatGPT original. Every episode is a boring slog to sit through as it's mostly just a slideshow of obviously digital images with a bad VHS filter over it and the Lavender Town theme on repeat. It's really hard to follow certain plot points because character designs change from shot-to-shot and there's basically no consistency between episodes anyway. We're supposed to be receiving messages from real angels, like from-Heaven angels, and they just speak the king's English and give us numbered lists. It's so boring! There's a TON of cool stuff you could do with the premise of the series, but nothing interesting actually happens! The coolest lore revelation in the series is that the main character was 800 years old at the time of his death, but I lied to you that's actually just a mistake the AI made that the "creator" didn't catch while editing the video. There's just no passion in any of it! It's the purest form of slop.
