How is understanding different from computing? We start early life at a clear fraction of understanding, and intelligent behaviour. We learn as newborns as babies. The display of complex intelligence and understanding is then a later emergent property of our brains. Neural networks do that also. With perhaps enough scaling emergence could very well be possible.
