Digital videos have always been compressed by algorithms, called codecs (compression / decompression). Youtube is just, like all others, implementing AI based video codec to achieve a higher compression ratio with high efficiency. All mobile phones use realtime codecs to record video or to play any video you see on your mobile... AI compression is just the evolution of those algorithms. Apple acquired 2 years ago, the startup WaveOne, which developed "content-aware" AI algorithms for video compression. If the Phone 16 is not already equipped with AI codec, the 17 will be for sure.. It is not malicious or catastrophic. It is to save memory space, with the evergrowing quantity of videos uploaded to all platforms, and at the same time, it allows more resolution at a smaller streaming bitrate. The first generations of AI-Powered Video Codecs are already in action, since quite a long time, and nobody can see a single defect or difference in the video quality... The obvious defects, that were visible in the videos pesented here, are probably just the developers that were too optimistic with their new AI CODEC at higher compression ratio, and deployed their solution too early. Obviously, it was far from ready, or they have pushed a bit too far on the compression ratio !!
