I find it funny, that people are making a huge deal out of an autonomous car killing a person, who was jaywalking during night with dark clothing on, while there are 3,287 road crash deaths caused EVERY DAY by humans. Jesus, even the driver didn't react until the last second, when it was too late. Face it, even if the car wasn't autonomous, the person would still be dead. It is dumb, that Uber cancelled autonomous cars driving around while the investigation is in progress. Yes, autonomous cars SOMETIMES make mistakes, but humans make mistakes very often. Do we track everything around us while driving? Of course not, we can barely focus on what's happening right in front of us. The problem about autonomous cars aren't the cars themselves, but us, little dumb humans. Almost all criticisms about autonomous driving are ethical. But autonomous cars will react how we program them to react in situations like this. And if they have to decide between killing a pedestrian and killing the driver, it willl act however the car manufacturer programs it to react. The technology is perfect. The programing might be flawed, and it is our fault, not the car's fault.
