It CAN be useful in a coding environment, but it’s still far too prone to making errors and hallucinating, even though theoretically coding should be one of the most suitable applications for so-called AI. Even when it works you often don’t need to dig too far under the surface to find issues. It’s hard to see how it can be made less error prone without fundamentally changing how it works, but business leaders believe (or need to be seen to believe) the hype and snake oil salespeople (let’s be honest, there’s always been plenty of those when it comes to business technology), and investors are scared of missing the next big thing.
For better or worse it’s here to stay in one form or another, but there’s no way the current situation of an endless supply of investment can be sustained.
