AI doesn't learn the same way we do and it doesn't generate art or text or music the way we do. You'll constantly hear smartass AI experts explaining how LLMs calculate the most likely next words to come and art generating AI starts with noise and works backwards - we need to learn the alphabet, spelling, how to write, the language we use, the subjects we write about, how novels, essays, and other writing forms are made, or visual artists need learn a similar suite of skills and knowledge, as for musicians and composers. Nothing like how AI works. Prompters mostly just echo bad talking points and you're right, they're just justifying for their own selfish aims. The argument about Picasso is bogus. Picasso and Braque invented Cubism. Gen AI doesn't innovate, ever. It can't, it's not designed that way. So before Picasso and Braque, nobody could have used genAI to make Cubist images, because they'd never have been trained on cubism. And it's unlikely that later abstract and expressionist styles of art would have arisen without the cubism and expressionism that preceded them. If genAI replaces artists and writers and musicians, our culture will stagnate, innovation will die. But you know what? There are lots of us who will continue to make our own art and writing. AI prompt "artists" are nothing but mediocre parasites.
