It absolutely is not like using steroids. In the analogy you pointed to the idea that you would lift more and get stronger faster. Using ChatGPT does not help you to think more and get smarter faster. The analogy unwinds.
The robot is correct. Consider your example from the beginning. The Spanish homework in which the student didn't even have the ability to read the extra tag from the bot. That student did no "lifting"at all.
The robot can help you to different degrees. It can lift all of it or part of it. Some just have it lift the whole thing and just submit what comes out.
Some are using it like a spotter. They don't let it even touch the bar unless they are in real trouble.
Still others are using it to take on part of the work so they can get enough reps to build a little muscle to do it themselves. The problem is that in school the progression is so fast that you can't get enough assisted reps in before the weight increases. Then you have to have a bot take on that weight too. Soon you fall way behind because it's the end of the semester and your still only "lifting" the weight from month 2.
