The main fear in regards to AI is the human reliance to AI. When a new technology is founded, humans find an equilibrium of reliance. You know you can use a calculator to know 1+1. You know a car can take you to any location connected by land.
Human expectations on AI are currently uncomfortably close to having humans bending to the will of AI. Humans killing someone (or selves) just because AI states this means AI is capable of killing our civilization as we know it!
