I’m disabled and an amateur artist, and was initially excited to use AI for reference. AI has helped me take a shortcut or two that has saved me labor in the past, but not much. I generated for example a reference photo of a giraffe, which helped me come up with a style, but was absolutely anatomically wrong around the nose. So it was only one of several references. If you’re actually making your art, AI doesn’t speed that up very much. It’s the difference between generating a reference and having to find one close enough or make one in Photoshop. And I find myself using it less and less. I find it a distasteful argument too.
