I think ultimately art is about communication, and usually of something original or unique. AI is not capable of communicating with any actual recognizable human intent behind it and so there is nothing being communicated. I think that’s why AI hasn’t been capable of “being art” up to this point. Add to that the fact of what it is doing is digesting huge quantities of human content and regurgitating it out based on a prompt it was fed by a person; nothing original is even attempting to be communicated.
