If you want to determine whether an AI is sentient or not, then rather than ask it deep questions, I think it would be much more informative to see how it responds to absurd or ambiguous / garden-path sentences. For example: "How much mayonnaise do you put on your kickballs?" "How do you like sidewalk-fried eggs?" "Where do you think the cheese the moon is made of came from?" "Can a match box?" If it tries to answer seriously and trips over itself, then it's definitely not sentient. If it seems to realize the questions are absurd, then it might be sentient.
