With the rise of AI I feel like these news articles/interviews/etc should come attached with a brief overview of how AI works because this would make people feel a lot more relaxed. The singularity does not refer only to AI, rather the advances of technology that would bring human and machine together as one. Some argue it's already here, look at how controlled we are by machines like computers, cars etc. There's already advanced tech available to the public that can read your brainwaves and be calibrated to perform actions based on certain brainwaves which is crazy. Hollywood dystopian futures do not seem plausible, there'll be no more of a divide than there is today. At first new released tech will be expensive, the rich will have it - business will make it "accessible" for lower-class, few years pass the tech isn't that expensive anymore etc etc.
Think back to computers when they were first released in comparison to now. The singularity is already here, it's not the worst thing that's going on right now.
