What most of these discussions is missing is that we are still limited by physical interface. AI currently is only rehashes human knowledge with it's biases and naive world-view. Most of our scientific ideas are based on some obsolete non-scientfiic ideas. AI is now connecting some dot but not actually creating new understanding because i, still, doesn't have interface with the real world and even if it does, is is still limited by sensor technology. I know AGI people would say, you're dumb, AGI will create the technology to create new sensors. Well I don't see we are even close to manufacturing by manipulating atoms.
