Several existing theories (including the Integrated information theory (IIT)) suggest mechanisms by which AI could be become sentient. Why not engage with the proponents of these theories and bring them in for discussions? Neural nets in LLMs are growing larger and more complex as time passes. Mimicry and pattern matching can explain most of what we've observing in LLM AIs currently, but not necessarily all.
