I've seen absolutely zero people in my writing spaces actually happy that NaNo is doing this, and many of them are both disabled *and* published authors who have participated in NaNo for several years. I'm also disabled, and we're all super upset and angry that NaNo is basically using us as a prop to justify their inclusion of AI this year. It's infuriating and upsetting because "it helps disabled people" is a common refrain in all AIGC spaces yet none of them ever seem to have talked to disabled people, and just instead go based on ableist assumptions that we are incompetent and completely non-functional. Like, buddy, I'm both physically and mentally disabled and my work is in PUBLISHED MEDIA. Not once have I needed to rely on AI, and doing so would have just harmed my growth as a creative anyway.
