There are artists who study and replicate famous paintings to an astonishing degree, forgeries essentially, but they are painted by hand. It's only a forgery if they claim the original artist painted it, otherwise it's just their interpretation. The difference is that AI physically stores the art as data in its neural network, and thus is directly using the originals in any rendition. I think royalties are owed for this.
