As a vet tech that was the biggest struggle; people don't have money to spend on luxuries (pets are not a necessity unless you're mentally unwell). I only worked for mom n pop vets and everyone complains they're expensive while behind the scenes wages have stagnated and doctors are taking paycuts to try to make care affordable. Over covid basic vaccines quintupled in price, and owners complain about a slight increase when the industry is actually eating a lot of the cost trying to help. The other issue with the vet field is they actually care for animals so they're willing to make sacrifices to help, I could earn so little because I lived in my mom's basement. All my coworkers were supported by parents or husbands. After 15 years I left for a basic data entry job that will be replaced by AI and rant on youtube on how everyone is shit because "be the change you want to see" and apparently this is what people want. That's why I'm a misanthrope because I thought we humans could do better.
