The question should also be "what is consciousness?".
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck - is it a duck?
If a machine acts like a living being, shows pain, understanding and can hold real conversations. If it mimics a human. Is it conscious?
Because your conscious brain may be made of flesh, but it's also just shooting voltage between nodes to calculate things. It uses electrical impulses and and a web of neurons as storage. It's really just a big, floppy, wet Computer - but your conscious is real?
I guess those are important questions.
However, despite me advocating for this discussion, the current evolution of AI is really just a statistical model giving you "the most likely next word to your input" (from a huge dataset).
So it's not really using the input to think, but make a statistical look up.
Probably won't be long until we have to have this conversation
