You have succeeded in making a clear and understandable explanation. I am 71 and I have started using AI for programming and its an amazing tool. As a tool Im in total support but as you say its how its being implemented that is my fear. AI doesn't even have to advance to levels that are threatening in themselves all it needs is idiots using AI to make decisions and to blindly accept those decisions. As examples I would suggest social services being controlled by AI which determines what benefits etc you may be accepted for. Military applications where the decision to kill something is totally decided by the AI. Smart cities where your every action is known and can be manipulated and controlled with no recourse. There are so many examples where you could be restricted due to our dependence on digital systems that I believe we are leaving ourselves exposed to some stupid solutions without any knowledge of the unforeseen consequences. As time goes by the chances of this happening increases and I haven't even included malicious intentions. We currently have a large number of the population that are digitally isolated, AI is likely to increase this through AI controlled restrictions, insurance is a current example but accessing your apartment will be next for reasons you have no idea why or any or very limited ability to find out and change. I suspect this venture is going to have some very serious implications for the next generation.
