It's not AI that will kill everyone. It's the 1% that will kill the 99%. And they will do it as soon as they're confident that they can build robots which are smart enough to replace us.
The moment they decide that maintenance on their fleet of servant robots is less trouble and less risky than keeping the 99% in line....watch out.
