I really like Miyazaki's take on it. It really, truly is an insult to life itself. Art is the assertion of a being's own existence to the world. A beings senses, emotions, it's own sense of self. I struggle to even call what this DALLE stuff is "art" OR "AI", it's a program designed to generate pixels at the request of a user. That's it. I'd truly have no problem if an actual AI (that is, a proper intelligence that just so happens to be artificially created) decided to make art of it's own free will. That would be art. What I have an issue with is the insistence that a computer program can make "art". A computer program has no existence, no sense of self, no emotions, nothing that it can use to create art. It requires other people's art to predict how art would be made. I also hate when people claim that "AI is stealing other people's art" the AI is not doing anything. People are stealing art. People are aiding others in creating mockery of other artist's work. And these people need to be held accountable. Edit: Also want to say how much I love the piece you finished at around 9 minutes. Genuinely so good Edit: And it truly sucks what machine drawing has turned into. I do believe there could've been legitimate uses for it. Mostly for people who simply need a quick picture and truly cannot afford to commission an artist. I'm thinking a quick and dirty picture as a cover for a web novel you're putting on wattpad or something. But the very fact that stolen artwork is being used to train these programs makes even the most innocent of intentions unethical.
