Let me share my story,
I started worse than that. I started with stick figures, not even good stick figures. Made dumb, crappy comics of stick figures for years and never improved.
Then I learned how to draw a character in one specific pose, but no other. It still didn't look good, but it was all I knew how to draw so I stuck to it. Again, for years. Then finally, in 2020, I finally decided I wanted to really learn. So I started my journey.
After 6 years of doing art with no progression, I actually started getting somewhere. It took 3 years for me to actually get to somewhere that looked- somewhat decent. And even then, I had a fluctuating ability to just forget how to draw my somewhat decent way.
I was horrible and inconsistent. It made me really sad, especially seeing my friends being able to draw so easily. I surely, MOST literally, did not have a gift. I struggled everytime I drew for years. But, I never stopped improving.
By my fourth year, I started to get more consistent. Not perfect, but better. Way better then before. Starting to understand shape, depth, all that jazz.
Then in my fifth year, I think I can finally say I can make good art.
I still sometimes struggle with consistency, but, I think that's common. And im still getting better.
I wasn't born with a special talent for art. In fact, 0 talent in art. If I put all my years of drawing together, it took me nearly 11 years to get good at art. But if you show dedication, and effort. Truly, I believe, anyone can be an artist.
Don't give up, it is a tiring effort. Art is like a sport. Some are naturally gifted while others are not. The misconception is that being naturally gifted doesn't mean automatically being fantastic at it.
I was a naturally gifted swimmer. I never paid attention in learning how to do the stroke. I didn't put in that much effort in learning. But I did the stroke fantastically. And I beat everyone who was older then me for 8 years straight. That- came from my effort. Me swimming my heart out in the pool. I didn't need to put that much effort in learning the stroke, but effort still goes in to destroy my last time. In fact, I was so exhausted from doing swimming for years that I finally decided to quit. I was too tired all the time, and I was started to get bored. Props to anyone who swims, btw.
The same applies to artists. Some artists never need to think about the fundamentals of art, but they still have to put so much effort into what they make. While others, like me, have to remember the fundamentals else you wanna skip back a few years in the learning process. One day it will become natural, trust me.
Don't give up because you don't feel good enough.
You will never feel the true ecstasy of art if you don't do it by your own hand
