I think the main difference is that you're putting actual time and effort into it vs. typing in a prompt and having AI steal others content to make soulless slop. And you're actually using the smudge tool as a way to enhance your art, using the tools that the program gives you. I never understood the argument between digital and AI art, one is made by a human with soul, the other is by a machine that just steals without giving credit.. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, this is just how I see things)
