In a way the predicted ai boom and doom is a manifestation of the misguided ideology corporations have sold to us. That working is the basic human requirement. That working defines you as human and makes you a complete rightful citizen. As opposed to being a leech. A harmful member of society. Being productive towards someone else is the highest accolade you can imagine. You get rewarded for it with some money which is basically just rights to healthcare, apartment, food. Just like the peasants did in the 1600s. They just didn't have the money part in the middle. They had just two forms of currency. Work and things. To create the production of goods that pays the bills we have always needed human labor. Work - money - things. All interchangeable. What should be the turning point in human history is becoming the doomsday. Which is bizzarre because the ultimate goal of working is to not have to work anymore. That is the dream. Pension, fire, becoming rich. In the end we are sold the idea that working gives you that when in reality it is all about becoming rich so you don't have to work anymore. The boom of ai should be the moment when we as humans don't need to spend majority of our time working anymore to keep the cogs of society spinning. Because with ai it can spin on its own. It should be the revolution that sets us finally free from all of that work. The goal of humans working should be to make society better. Not to make the rich just richer. Not to just allow the rich to stop working. It should be the first step towards star trek abundance. Not the last step into late stage capitalism/kleptocracy and extreme wealth gap. But the same ideology keeps hurting us. We can not and do not want to imagine future where we get more and work less. It is seen purely from ideological point of view as immoral, lazy and wrong. Things should be earned. Not given. But what happens when you can not earn it? But because of capitalism that 1% capital growth is the only goal. Capitalism after all is not free markets. It is not meritocracy. It is the power of capital. And because all the benefits of ai are going towards those who already have the most capital we will all end like kongo and nigeria. Where the wealth is not shared but taken by the top 1%. Where 99% of people live in the same conditions as the peasants in the 1600s. Ubi is the wrong solution. Ubi would have been the solution 20, 50 years ago. But to make ubi work you need jobs because human jobs produce the wealth that funds the ubi. What people should understand is that with ai we can generate wealth, production and prosperity without humans having to work. It nothing different from having 5 million invested and living off the interest.
