I will say that "beating china" isnt just about economics. Its about preventing a super intelligent AI from first emerging in a China. A place where the government will be keen to use it to expand the power of their oppressive regime. Look at what they (the Chinese government) are willing to do to the Uyghurs. If i have to choose between self interested technocrats or the CCP....im kinda screwed already but ill take the non communist regime option.
