AI should not be used for creating art and its training should be fking illegal, but if it isnt a tool then what IS it? Google is a tool for searching the internet, like a sifter for links. If AI isnt a tool defined as: something that helps you to do a particular activity by the Cambridge dictionary (which is vague as all heck by the way), then what is it? If AI is NOT a tool then it is a being, not a human but a person, which is even worse for artists copyright and going to upend our entire premise of what constitutes life. Frankly i dont particularly care which it is; it still shouldnt be useing the training methods it does given the lack of citing inspiration, but everything will be a lot simpler if people still refer to robots and AIs as tools in the future. I mean i guess there are some people claiming they have AI girlfriends now so maybe AIs WILL be defined as people... There is also the clanker slur being thrown around like AI is a race as well...
