fearmongering certainly isn't the answer here, these machines are just complex pattern recognition tools- what's actually happening is the behind the scene prompting and attempts to 'corral' the tools into behaving within certain restrictions creating these strange behaviors. We have seen this with Grok, and with various experiments on locally run LLMs (where one can tamper with the chat history with said AI to break them entirely because the pattern has been destroyed, but the LLM tries to follow up on it and can't, so it produces essentially nonsense strings of characters that no longer mean anything.) It really isn't sentient. It's just a tool that's out of control and people keep trying to paint it as this monster when its just a runaway locomotive that we made. If people could just focus on educating instead of fearmongering and painting it as an alien intelligence we could actually do more to protect people from it.
