That argument completely ignores the most fundamental economic mechanisms and historical facts. It makes zero sense. If 99% of the population starves to death, AI companies would collapse too, simply because they'd have no consumer base left. And even if they did somehow pull through, the surviving 1% wouldn't exactly enjoy living in a ruined world. The people in power just wouldn't let things get to that point. Look at the pandemic crisis: governments handed out relief money to the unemployed and everyday citizens just to keep things afloat.
