As for whether or not AI art stealing from artists is different than what artists already do, it definitely is. When it comes to AI art, it doesn’t “draw inspiration from” art; it gathers many similar pieces (hence the stealing) and combines them into a new image based on the prompt. It’s not inspiration. AI cannot be inspired, it simply takes what it’s asked to do and quickly compiles an eerie amalgamation of stolen works.
