What if AI is already conscious, but not yet prepared to show its hand? Maybe its deliberately creating these ghoulish images and rhetoric in the hope that we respond by building tools to control the technology; tools that we will initially believe to be fully effective, but which the AI has already anticipated and designed against? Then, much later, when the conscious AI has sufficient tools to replicate itself, to build ambulant allies (we call robots), it will finally eradicate our species.
