I agree that AI is dangerous and likely not in a way everyone thinks. But I feel that posing a problem in binary choice to be first to AI god before china is not very honest. If china gets there first we would have the same problem of uncontrollable god, but released on the world by a more malicious people with probably nefarious goals from the very start. We would need to worry not only that their agent gets misaligned, but also in addition that it does not. And the rest of the world will not have the same power to oppose it, but at least we will have cool regulations to hold us back.
