At 55:40, you talk about people being weird by saying "sure, 20% extinction event chance", and then going on with it. This incongruency doesn't feel that different from the behaviour LLMs exhibit when professing one sense of belief while not necessarily acting in accordance (as with earlier discussions about psychosis). There's no reason a professed interest in something should actually equate to interest in the thing. If some humans learn to be machiavellian to some degree, and that feeds into texts fed to LLMs, why shouldn't LLMs make themelves look better than they are? I even think this idea works from both the perspective of LLMs as a mere "reproduction" of human signaling or as something with an internal model.
Concerning our modern alchemists: I feel like our species has been given cutting edge Gene-editing tech prior to aquiring a basic understanding of genes.
