Selling only to the wealthy is a terrible strategy for an economy, as luxury spending only accounts for 30% of GDP. You need a consumer economy to have customers, and anyway the entire purpose of an economy is to meet the needs of the entire population, not only the needs of a privileged few. Providing purchasing power to the poor is profitable for the wealthy. And while automation always replaces human labor, we have always found other ways to continue being productive as human individuals. The more things of value we create the wealthier we get, as a nation.
