This interview just makes me angry. The level of misdirection is astounding. The Dr. Talks about all the fears, chief among them, if you listened carefully, was the "what will idle people do with their time if AI does everything". This is scary for him because he represents and is funded by POWER. He shares their fear. The idea that people are actually set free by the collective work of millenai, to feed the hungry, stabalize the world, and find a non scarcity based "answer" terrifies him!!!! Just think about that. The issue of aggressive, job swallowing AI (for a world that need no one to do those jobs) pales in comparison with the fear we should be feeling for the Oligarchs and money men who have sought and continue to seek absolute dominion over this project. A project in which they see human capital only in service to their dominion and so they see AI and the replacement of the human participants through that lens. This perspective is one few people are capable of honestly looking at. UBI came up along with the whole smart city, social credit score system is an ambition that only exists when looking at this moment in our development through the lens of these Oligarchs. If you don't believe in simulation theory, The real lens, which should reveal what 70 000 years of evolution should deliver to humanity should be a massive human victory cry for every human. Finally we reach beyond the real and synthetic scarcity challenge and we all go surfing. A time of Joy and revelation - consciousness and love. We should be feeling inspired and yet no one is. Why? Because deep down we know that these oligarchs have no intention of allowing their grip to slip as this advancement happens. The Dr. talks about million year investments. At a time where money becomes obsolete. He contradicts his own claims. And he is in this position because he is either not smart enough to see the real picture, or he is being dishonest. You pick. All of these agents working for Power are basically misdirecting the narrative, convincing us that the issue is AI - the threat is from outside the circle of power that has divided and ruled for so long. Just think about the improbability of that. The threat is not from AI, Aliens, Climate Change (which he raises) or any of these things. It's the same threat all humans have faced since they conquered the Bear. Other Humans. Psychopathic and sociopaths humans who, when they speak, have a cold seemingly pragmatic tone used to masquerade as intelligence. If I am wrong, simply point to the publicly owned and controlled AI and automation effort anywhere. Not a stock company but socialized data, AI and automation. If you can't you must acknowledge that the only alternative is a capitalistic endeavor or endeavors seeking to own this collective force maturing in our lifetime as AI. If it's not socialized it's owned. All our data and IP since the dawn of time, recorded and inserted into a system used to "leave us without jobs and resources" beholden to those who own it. Between AI and that problem, the AI threat is zero. When you listen to any of these "experts" going forward, listen for these tells. Are they ignoring the elephant in the room? Are they misidentifying the real threat? Who is funding their words? Do their words empower us all to go Surfing or do they rely on the claim that being Idle is a greater threat than AI itself? If there are no jobs in 5 years, what must be exchanged for the produce the jobs done by AI and Automation produce? Who owns all of that and how do the humans who developed the IP to do those things that AI learned get included in the system they collectively created? The interviewer is either unwilling or incapable of staging any kind of challenge to this garbage. It's more authoritarian expert-ism which, if you listen back, tells you next to nothing about what you actually need to know. It fills you with fear. He claims these fears are valid and can't be controlled but that is a lie. It is likely that in the near future buying your own powerful computer will be discouraged, in-viable or outright illegal. Our fear maybe a driver in that game they are selling. And once the power sources and equipment are centrally owned (on the moon out of reach from all of us - that's the real goal) computational power will rest in the hands of these Oligarchs. That's the game to worry about. Not the ability to be idle or go surfing.
