Oh, but it is hitting the court system already, with plaintiffs seeking billions in damages, and it'll be interesting to see what rulings will come. Getty is suing Stable Diffusion after images, and even elements of their logo were found embedded in AI art, so it's actually international already since Getty is based in the UK. A group of visual artists are suing Stability, Midjourney, and DeviantArt for copyright infringement involving AI generated images. There's another pending suit against Open AI and Microsoft for allegedly infringing on the rights of developers. And there are more coming down the line. The legal battles will be long and numerous, and many who use AI to create art for profit will get sucked into the legal madness too, just like those who copy stuff like Disney characters for profit. Just like AI, artists learn from other artists and their works, but their own works always come out with their own style and spin when they create it, and if they learn in a classroom setting, they also learn to not copy others artwork. AI basically collages and manipulates what it's fed, it's not "original", and now to protect copyright holders it'll be determined by a judge whether a computer generated, or manipulated image of, say Mickey Mouse, is still Mickey Mouse. And how much will copyright holders like Disney, Getty, and others spend to prove it is? It's cool technology, but it has it's share of legal questions and implications that should have been considered before releasing it into the wild. As a Youtube creator, you know how copyright holders are trying to close the door a little more every day on fair use, mostly thanks to those who abuse it for profit, and this isn't going to help that any either. It's going to be crazy to see how this all plays out, and it's just beginning 😳
